An exhibition by Claire McArdle
The feminine divine is expressed as the goddess archetype in mythologies, cultures, and religions dating back to the lower Paleolithic era (2,500,000 B.C.E. to 120,000 B.C.E.) Carl Jung described the goddess as “not a symbol of something; she is something; she is life.” This archetype represents creation itself, the giver of life, a vessel from which all existence flows. As humanity emerges through the force of creative energy, the feminine divine is immanently woven into the essence of every being. Once exalted, the goddess and feminine archetype were later suppressed. In recent decades, the rebirth of the goddess has revived the exploration and understanding of the feminine divine as an intrinsic part of the human experience.

“As humanity emerges through the force of creative energy, the feminine divine is immanently woven into the essence of every being.”

At the intersection of the spiritual self and physical body, is feminine divine energy. It encapsulates the qualities of birth, compassion, creative expression, nurturing and intuitive wisdom. This energy and associated attributes are present collectively and individually transcending gender distinctions.

Many of these energetic aspects are channeled in an artist’s relationship to their craft. The artist embodies the inherent cyclical nature of divine creative energy and acts as the medium through which it flows. This creative process is one of divination, a space of sacred prayer to hewn and mold raw materials of the Earth to bring forth these ethereal forms; a ritual of alchemy and tributary offerings.

As a manifestation of the artist’s ideations and inspirations, these sculptures are an honorific benefaction to this feminine divine that resides within all. With this understanding, is an invitation to explore the totality of self through an unconditioned lens of reverent curiosity.

“Through this devotion to my art and my craft, I have come to intimately know the Feminine Divine within myself and releasing the finished piece out in the world is my contribution to society.”
